Hello there, AM here. This week we are doing some new stuff here in the photo blog. We have started new category “Tutorials”. We hope to soon have a large amount of techniques, links, our own personal tutorials and any thing else photo learning wise to add to the Blog. Feel free to leave comments on anything. If you have a better way or just more info to add we would love to hear what you have to say so we all can learn something new or a different way about doing something….

First off I’m going to go straight into a Tutorial on how take a photo sequence and create an Animated GIF in Photo Shop CS3. Everyone has their own way they do things and with GIF’s sequences there is couple ways of creating them but here is how I do it using a basic skate sequence.

Sequence Animated GIF

1.) First step for me is in Lightroom. I like to sync all my photos with the same editing adjustments I have made to one so they all look the same. From there I hit export select what size I want them to be (saves time from resizing them in PS) hit ok and POOF.. on my desktop I have a folder with just those edited and resized photos ready to be put together.
2.) Now that we have all the editing done and the photos are resized to how I want them. I just take that folder and drag and drop it into PS CS3.
3.) Here is where people do different things. First off I take all the photos put them into layers starting with the first photo of the seq. and so on… Should look like this:

Photos into layers

4.) Now I want to open the Animated tool bar. On the tool bar click WINDOW>ANIMATION
Should look like this:

Animation Toolbar

5.) From here I’m going to ALT+CLICK the “EYE con” of my first photo on the layers toolbar. This will turn off all the other photo layers and just keep the selected photo/first frame on.

Duplicate Icon

6.) Next we are going to go to the animation tool bar and hit the Duplicate Icon. This will create a duplicate of the first frame so you have two frames on the tool bar. Should Look like this:

gifpic_4.jpg

7.)Now with your second frame on the animated tool bar highlighted you want to go back to the layers palette and ALT+CLICK your second frame / second photo in the sequence. Just like before it will only turn on that layer you click.

Check out your frames on the animated tool bar if you click between them you will you have started the first two frames of sequence.

8.) From here repeat steps # 6 and #7 to the rest of your layers/photos.
When you’re done with them all it should look like this:

gifpic_5.jpg

Now click the play button on your animated toolbar and you see that your sequence is light speed.

9.) We need to slow it down. Do this by clicking your highlighting your first frame click and hold SHIFT then click your last frame so all the frames are highlighted.
10.) Then right below your first frame click where it says 0 sec. From here you can select how fast you want the sequence to go. If you want to put a speed not listed click other and type your desired speed in. Since all the frames are selected it will put each frame at your selected speed. I tend to like .3 sec’s for a somewhat normal looking speed. Mess around and choose what you like. Should look like this:

Choose your speed son!

ALMOST DONE!

11.) All we have to do is save for web. Hit SHFT+ALT+CMD+S
GIF should already be selected if not select GIF. You can mess around the setting to get what you want.

save for web

12.) Save that bitch. Upload it your Myspace and then you will be the coolest guy/girl around.

Congratulations Here is the final Animated GIF Image we just did.

Some people don’t like doing this for snowboarding. Pretty much you can only use it for a web article. But this is just another way of putting together a photo sequence in PS.

I don’t think I’m that great of teacher but hopefully this all made sense. It works for me for hopefully it will work for whom ever this reading this…. Good luck!

Next time I will show you how to put together a standard still sequence in PS.

Hm… generally I agree with you, but I wonder what our readers would tell.
