Trick: frontside stall

I always love when snowboarders do straight up skateboard tricks. I was real excited to see Tim Eddy do a proper frontside rock on the quarter. Not many dudes were hitting this thing properly; Tim Eddy, Kyle Loppicolo, Joe Sexton..a few others, I forget, that was two weeks ago, ha. The other picture was coincidence. Tim Eddy was pointing to someone behind me saying “lets keep riding” when the event was over. It looks like he was pointing at me and I am a cool guy but I was just phoaching. After 5 years of shooting, writing and doing interviews I still know very few riders and that is by design. I like having the perspective of a fan, not an insider. I hate stories that are like “Bro, my bro’s and I were ripping, look how bitchen I am” always an outsider, like 99% of snowboarders

Trick: Blunt Stall

I believe this night session in Mammoth last season was just a little bit after the New Year. Tucker Watson had been scoping this truck trailer for awhile, waiting for more snow and figuring out the best way to get speed for this sucker. Finally new snow arrived he rallied the troops him, Myself and Mac Spedale. We waiting until after midnight to hit this since we were using Tuckers Sled for speed and this was an entrance for a busy construction zone occupied all day. Here we have Mac helping me out with a light and focus test and also gives you a idea how tall trailer was. Mac went first took a few tries to figure the speed and lip out. Two reshaped lips later and Mac got a solid stall on the top. We had to do it a couple of times to get the shot right. It was so damn cold and wet I had to get into the car every 10min to warm my fingers and toes since I was sitting on the snow. But it was worth it.

Trick: 360 Bonk

I always enjoy taking a trip down to bro cal (my old home) to see my friends, family and of course a shred session at Bear Mtn. For me Bear mountain is just all about having a good time messing around on top to bottom fun small features. This day was the perfect temp, great skies and a fun big crew. I like not having the pressure of getting shots (contests) or having to “work”. All day I was just taking lap with no bag or strap just my camera and fisheye having a great time taking random stuff while still riding with everybody. Here is one spot of every run where I would post up and take my chances with a board to face or getting landed on. Kirk Kaufamnn busted a nice move with a 360 bonk up and off this shaved log. This is not the hugest trick or most difficult but the reason I think this photo is the bright colors Kirk is wearing, the expression on his face and it captures for me at least a typical day having fun snowboarding with your friends at fun place. Watch out for this tall fool he’s got a mean bag of tricks both rails and jumps and it just waiting to unleash it. Check out the NOV. Issue of Snowboard-Mag Kirk has a full page shot that’s pretty sick…. don’t let him tell you other wise.

Some of us Snowboard, some of us Skate, some of us Surf, some do all three. All of these are connected. Even though this is primarily a Snow site we are going to throw in the occasional Skate and Surf pics just to change things up a bit. The season hasn’t even started so hell… here is this weeks Skate “Double Take” courtesy of George Crosland.

Rider: PLG

Location: Salt Lake City,UT. Dew Tour

Trick: Heelflip frontside air

These shots were taken practically right after each other. The action shot is during PLG’s final fun of the Salt Lake stop of the Dew Tour. Not only is this PLG’s final fun but the very last last run of the contest. PLG put himself into first place during this same run. He is doing a heelflip frontside air or something, like a set up trick for him. The other photo is right at the very moment when it is announced that the score for that run was enough to overtake Shaun White and Bucky Lasek for the win. I was in the airport showing Bucky some of the photos and he said “you gotta use that one of PLG, that is right when he yelled fuck yea” Well, here they are.

This is the first installment of a new photo feature “Double Take” to the Snowboard-Revolution Photographer Blog. This will be a weekly installment of two pictures combined as one to show more of a story, a moment before the action or a double unique view of the trick, place or rider and some Photographer info. Just something new and fresh for your eyes. I will do my best to make sure one of these gets up once a week or once every two weeks of either my photos or Crosland or Johnny’s. I’ll start this week off with two.

Rider: Jeff Kramer

Location: Mammoth Mountain, CA

Trick: Backside 720

This day was just a typical week day in south park pretty mellow. I ran into Kramer while taking some laps and decided to grab my camera from my truck and end up shooting for rest of the afternoon. Jeff has great style and I really like the way he pokes his grabs and spins. Seem like we always run in to each other in the park and always end of with a few pretty sweet photos. Here is the drop and pop… Kramer backside Seven. {Click photo to enlarge}

Rider:Gabe Taylor

Location: Sonora Pass, CA

Trick: half cab

My first trip to Sonora I thought I was in heaven. Screw building jumps and shooting photos all I wanted to do is sled around all day. Good thing I was rolling with Gabe Taylor, Peter Benchetler and Mac Spedale who had the right mid set to hit some jumps and get some shots. This is a pretty popular zone the Jackson Brothers tore it up in Paradox doing a step down to the left and John J hits a line to 180 on the right and does a natty 720 right below this. Anyway’s this early season trip alot of stuff hadn’t filled in yet so there was this frozen water fall exposed and Gabe dusted off the top of this cornice and we waited like 20- 30min for the light and wind to die down. It broke for a second and Gabe stomped a solid half cab down the side of the falls. A few guys and tries later a small hole broke through the landing it got sketchy. Good thing nobody fell through and the landing help up for as long as it did or it would of been bad. Gabe gives the water fall a second look be for he drops the bitch. { Click to Enlarge }
